Natural Approaches to Attention-Deficit Disorder
By Dr. Joey Shulman, D.C., RNCP

It is not uncommon practice for doctors to recommend children diagnosed with attention-deficit disorder (ADD) take “drug holidays” during the summer or holiday season. The rationale behind the drug holidays is to give the child’s system a break from the addictive medication, which is often Ritalin.

The purpose of this article is to offer parents natural approaches that can be helpful with ADD children—we recommend that you do NOT take a child off their medication.

Drugs such as Ritalin are powerful, addictive stimulants and cannot be stopped abruptly. If you wish to take your child off their medication to implement natural approaches, consult with your health care practitioner.
