Preparation, uses, and tips
Wrap whole baguettes in foil, heat, and serve warm with butter or
olive oil; slice baguettes partway through into 2-inch (5-cm) segments and sprinkle garlic, butter, and fresh rosemary into the slits.
Buying and storing tips
Buy baguettes in the bakery section of most natural food and grocery stores. Choose the whole-grain variety whenever possible. Store in a
paper or plastic bag at room temperature, and use within a day.
Varieties
Baguettes are available in whole-wheat or traditional white versions. Demi-baguettes and
ficelle are smaller versions of the classic long bread.
